The Roaring Twenties
step 1: explore*Project Guide
*Research Organizer In this stage of your research, you are merely exploring and learning about the "big picture" of the 1920s. Hopefully, you are tapping into your prior knowledge OR gaining some new background knowledge about the decade to start drawing conclusions about it. You are getting a basic overview of the decade and its impact on American History. In this stage, you will answer a few of your teacher's "big picture" questions about the decade as a whole in terms of its social, political, economical, technological, and cultural implications. Here are some good links for this stage of your research. Note: These links start with a basic overview (Britannica Online) and increasing in depth and coverage of the 1920s.

Step 2: Identify and GatherDuring this stage of research, you are focusing in on specific aspects of the 1920s and starting to think about your final discussion and which side (the dark side or the bright side) you must support. You are now choosing some areas of interest and beginning to dig deeper to learn more about specific topics in the 1920s. Once you have identified the topics you'd like to explore, use the resources below to help you "zoom in". Don't forget to use your "Research Organizer" to record the sites and resources you use to support your argument in your socratic seminar. A thorough Works Cited will be turned in and assessed my Mrs. Hendrickson as part of your project grade.
Remember: you are NOT just reporting facts for your project. You are attempting to answer the questions: Was the decade of the 1920s truly “roaring” and prosperous; a bright point in U.S. history or was it a period of contrasts with dark undertones and conflicts that left many Americans disillusioned and unable to share in the cultural, technological, and economic advancements of the period?
