MissionWorking to meet the academic and recreational needs of the junior high student is the guiding philosophy of the Peet Media Center. Our teaching and learning here is guided by our Information Literacy Curriculum and follows the Iowa School Library Program guidelines. We promote literacy through activities that develop capable and independent readers. Current technology is provided to assure that students become skillful and discriminating users of information.
A Buzzing HubThe media center is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Many students use the media center before school to work on assignments, use the computers, or socialize with classmates. During the day classes may meet for the period to select materials, do research, or read with their English class. Students may also come with a pass from their teacher during a class period. When arriving, they sign-in with name, study hall teacher, time, project to work on, and computer number. When leaving, they sign-out with time leaving, in addition to having their planner signed. Students will use the media center during Tiger Time as well, with quiet reading/study time at the tables and computer usage in both labs. Students have access to many online resources including: Encyclopedia Britannica Online, AP Images, CultureGrams, Gale eReources, Learn 360, Atomic Learning,SIRS, and Teen Health & Wellness. All links found on the Peet Media Center page require user ID and passwords which can be obtained from media staff.
Student ExpectationsSTUDY HALL STUDENTS: please be sure to sign your name in the RED binder when you arrive! This lets Mrs Hendrickson and Ms. Young know how many visitors we get each day. It also helps keep you accountable.
When students are in the Media Center from a study hall or classroom or Tiger Time, they must follow these rules.
MagazinesWe have a variety of magazines to be enjoyed and read in the library. This year, new magazines are available for checkout!
